Trombone idler, composer, and bandleader Willie Coln is person of the pioneers of Latin American melody. Despite initial criticism, Coln's album El Malo has grow known as one of the primeval albums to feature the "New York Sound" that sparked a renewed engage in Latin music during the 1970s. Coln has been ancillary in the careers of such Latin musicians to the degree that Rubn Blades, who first sang with Coln's band in 1975, and Celia Cruz, notwithstanding whom Coln has produced such albums like Only They Could Have Done...
